Anyone who wants to see a clear picture of the battle termed the ‘Magog vs. Israel conflict’ need look no further than the book of Judges in the Old Testament. This ever nearing battle, that creeps closer and closer on the calendar of prophetic events - day by day - can be more deeply understood by a close study of the Ezekiel 'Magog' passages (chapters 38 and 39) in the light and context of the conquest of Gideon.
Just as God defeated the Midianites and the Amalekites in the valley of Jezreel before a meager 300 man army of ill equipped (by the world‘s standards) Hebrew cave-dwellers, so too, will he destroy Israel’s foes in the very near future. As in Gideon’s day, the Lord will defeat the Muslim nations that come in a confederate conglomeration with Russia as their captain with His mighty right hand. We will look a littler deeper in the remaining text of this report.
In short, for any who might not have read or heard the historical narrative of the 'Man of Valor' Gideon, we have spelled out for us in the book of Judges, a wonderful representation of the principle of Father..."not by might nor by strength, but by My Spirit," says the Lord God of hosts. This theme runs from the book of Genesis to the Apocalypse and is part and parcel a divine promise to those who call upon the name of the Lord.
A brief summary is as follows; Israel, after the death of Debra and Barak, is under oppression by the Midianites caused by divine judgment against them, for once again turning away from the God of their fathers. The Amalekites would band together with the Midianites in battle array annually, to drive away the cave-dwelling Hebrews from the land they had sowed - spoiling them of their crops and livestock and leaving nothing for the starving people. These two nations would gather on the land in numbers as innumerable as a plague of locusts, covering the land with their tents and camels - to devastate it. The Lord sent a prophet to pronounce this judgment when the children of Israel cried out to Him - explaining that He had always raised up a deliverer...and, He would again.
Gideon, who considered himself the lowest of Israel, being from the least of the families of Manasseh and the youngest of his own, was threshing wheat in a wine press so as to hide his activities from the marauders of Midian and keep the grain from the insurgents. - when an Angel of the Lord came to him, calling on him to deliver Israel from the hand of her oppressors. He, being a humble young man, asked how it was that he could deliver the children of Israel, and the answer was simple...the Lord was with him.
After testing the Lord - I believe because he had so little faith in himself - Gideon convinced his Hebrew brethren that the Lord had given them a sure victory and gathered an army of 32.000 fighting men. God instructed him first to dismiss any who were fearful - to simply go home - and 22,000 accepted the reprieve, leaving 10,000. The Lord then instructed Gideon to bring the men down to drink from the water, promising to pick the men he should keep, whittling down his force to 300 men. All of this to ensure that Israel did not 'vaunt themselves' above the Lord in their hearts, believing to have conquered in their own strength. The stage was set and the battle would soon ensue. Or would it?
I will let (and hopefully have left you with such a desire) the reader investigate the rest of the story for himself (a must read - beginning in Judges chapter 6), but will summarize the outcome in this way; the Lord did not intend for Gideon and his band of brave men to fight at all, but to show His power and receive glory by defeating the Midianites and the Amalekites for them and again prove to the children of Israel He was the One True God. The Lord's weapon of choice...confusion.
So what exactly does this have to do with the Magog conflict as found in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39? Much, in that once again the chosen (ethnic) children of God, after having been gathered from all of the nations of the world back to a reborn Israel would again face an uprising of hatred from the surrounding nations, each of which is depicted in Ezekiel. For some yet unknown reason, Israel will be unable to respond to the unprecedented preemptive attack led by Russia and the neighboring Islamic nation-states that are close neighbors of the Hebrew people. In this 'battle', the Lord promises to show His mighty hand to the heathen and to Israel, to once again alert the Jewish nation that God is on their side - that He is with them.
The destruction of her enemies will occur by fire and brimstone, an earthquake, and you guessed it...confusion. The reason the Amalekites and the Midianites in Gideon's day attacked and killed each other was simply this; they spoke different languages and look ethnically different than one another and in the heat of the battle, they couldn't tell one from the other as each one hacked the other to pieces. I am convinced this will also be the fate of the Muslim aggression that will culminate in the Magog conflict in the very near future. The end result will be identical, too, since Ezekiel tells us Israel will spoil Magog just as she received a mass of rewards from the Midianites and Amalekites.
Jumping to present day and the war on the horizon - since they have seen the Oil-weapon's effectiveness become irrelevant, Iran is now fighting a proxy war against Israel through Hamas an Hezbullah, agitating Syria and Lebanon, inciting them against Israel, and the ante is only growing immensely. Russia has stated that an attack against Iran would be no less than an attack against the Bear himself and they would respond, if necessary, with thermonuclear weaponry. As Israel flexes her military might against Hamas, devastating the terrorist government, Iran is already working covertly to rearm and redeploy munitions and manpower on all sides. It is just a matter of time until Israel has enough of the unprovoked aggression and launches an attack against Iran either directly - hitting their nuclear plants in an effort to slow down the progression of the Iranian machine - or indirectly, by slapping Syria an Lebanon around a little, with the same basic objectives she is now acting on with regard to Hamas. Either way, I see the outcome as this; Israel will strike Iran, prompting Russia to launch a response against them - citing George Bush's doctrine of preemption, national security defense and a need to 'change the regime' possibly citing the precedence already set by the American plot to depose Saddam Hussein. The Bible is clear - this conflict will end almost as soon as and as quickly as it began. I can almost see Russian MIGs and Iranian fighters clashing in the air, shooting one another down as the Hand of Confusion tickles the minds of pilots and they suddenly are convinced that one another are the enemy. On the ground, as Syrians, Lebanese, Afghanis, Turks, Libyans, Jordanians, Arabs and other ethnic middle eastern Muslims band together much like the Midianites and the Amalekites, to devastate the land, a massive earthquake will shake the mountains of Israel with the fury of the Lord. Them that aren't swallowed up by the earth will meet on the ground killing each other with a barrage of friendly fire the likes of which has never before been seen. Once again, the Lord using His weapon of choice - the battlefield of the mind - to run these Muslims who have different languages and different ethnic appearances into a warring frenzy against each other leaving, as the Bible dictates, only one fifth of these people in tact. That's an astonishing 85 percent fatality.
Is this a fairy-tale. I think not. Has it already happened? History agrees it hasn't. Could this event be months, if not weeks, or even days or hours from erupting? I believe so. The Lord has spoken and the words of the prophets of the Most High will come to pass. I do not claim to 'have been given a Word from God' - apart from the Word we find in the Bible, I am merely trusting God when He says this will happen , and looking to the signs all around us that say not only is it possible...but it is most assuredly probable in our lifetime and will happen as suddenly and unexpectedly as 9/11. Be ye ready?
Even so, Lord Jesus...Come!
