I never cease to be amazed by any professing brother or sister in Christ who sees the freedom of abortion as a world-view that is compatible with the character and nature of God. If there was ever a watershed point, an acid paper test for true Christianity, this is it. It is akin to saying 'you can be a Christian without being one of those crazy born-again types.' But to be fair, let's look at why.
First and foremost, God created man to have children of His own. Until you actually have children – or someone weaker and unable to fend for themselves, feed or clothe themselves, who can't tell you in words what they want but get the point across by decibel level and degree of intensity, who don't want you to do anything for them unless it's there idea – you will have a much harder time wrapping your mind around it. You will also find it difficult to contemplate the nestling of a baby against your chest and a love that trusts you with their life...without question. Not ironically, this is exactly what we are to the Creator, our Father God. It is no surprise, then, when we find the following in Scripture:
Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Not convinced? Then let us have a good look at the character of God through the eyes of them that feared Him in Egypt, before the exodus:
Exodus 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
It cannot be ignored that even before the Law was given to Moses, the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob understood that God values life. Especially the defenseless and the innocent. The unborn and the small child are the most innocent among us and deserve an extraordinary degree of protection. In fact it's the least among us that are held in highest esteem - as is the nature of God:
1st Corinthians 12:23 and those {members} of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable,
Thus, His will for the least, most vulnerable among us is evident to any who would be intellectually honest. Still there are them that say a fetus, embryo, or any other technical term given for the life inside the womb, is just a growth that is part of the woman's body. Like a cyst, cancer, excess breast tissue, folds of fat or warts, one should reserve the right to remove this perceived malignancy or eyesore with no regard for the skin cells being disposed of. This is Satan's lie, perfected by the spirit of Antichrist that is already in the world. The truth is that at conception, this “lump of tissue” is alien to the mothers body. In fact, there is a condition in which this alien life form can be at great risk from the mother's immune system, called Rh D alloimmunization or Rh incompatibility. In such cases, the woman's body attacks the unborn infant as though it were a hazardous microbial infiltration of the circulatory system. A histamine response to a foreign stimulus sending antibodies to destroy the foreign body. If that weren't enough proof that the unborn isn't just part of the mother, consider this; at conception, the baby has completely different DNA from the mother, it has a separate (although dependent) circulatory system, an independent skeletal muscular and central nervous system. While the eyes could be similar in appearance the rods and cones that determine color will have their own unique order, it's skin color will be different and usually the child will have a blood type that is different from both the mother and the father.
Still not enough for you? Let's look at it from a different perspective, one of location. This is even more proof that it is inconvenience and not necessity that leads to abortion in 99.9% of all cases. Take the child out of the womb and raise it's age to ten. Consider a scenario in which a callous murderer breaks into their home and lines up mother and child against a wall, telling the mother, “One of you will die today. Let it be your choice, mother. Who will live and who will die?” Should she choose to sacrifice the child for her own life. THIS is what abortion truly is.
STILL not convinced? Then take it one step further. The argument is also made that because of it's stage of development it's not fully human yet, and cannot be considered a living being. This is the argument of stage progression. If we use this rationale, we must then make the following assumptions. Since a preteen boy or girl does not yet have their sexual organs in place or fully developed and cannot reproduce, their lives are of less worth than a fully grown adult...after all they are not fully developed, right? NO! Every human being is in a different stage of development at any given moment in time. This is also part of Satan's lie. This thought process ascribes greater value to one life over another simply based on growth. If this were true, you are of less value than someone older than you simply because their body and mind is more mature. If this were the case, where is the threshold in age? Sixty? Eighty? As you can see this, too, is complete nonsense and only feeds the spirit of Antichrist.
For the one who calls him or herself a Christian, consider this. Suppose you were a twelve or thirteen year old girl, living in a culture that still reserves the method of stoning as a means of administering the death penalty. Worse yet, this culture gives the family or husband the authority to perform honor killings with impunity to right a cultural or religious wrong. Say that you – this young girl – become pregnant, but not by your husband. You face almost certain death. Wouldn't this be grounds for abortion? After all the mother's life is in danger. Pay special attention if you call yourself a Christian. If you said yes, you have unwittingly allowed Jesus Christ to be terminated in the womb. Still OK with abortion, Christian?
If, after all of that you are not swayed, maybe it's because you think that the Bible doesn't give a clear answer either way. Even if it were true that abortion wasn't discussed in Scripture, you need only look at the character of the living God to see how He feels about it while keeping in mind that abortion is actually an ancient practice. It is written:
Psalm 127:3 Lo, children [are] an heritage of the LORD: [and] the fruit of the womb [is his] reward.
Amos 1:13 “For three sins of Ammon, even for four, I will not turn back {my wrath}. Because he ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to extend his borders
Proverbs 6:16-17 There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood,
2nd Kings 24:4 And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon
Anyone should be able to grasp the nature of God in these passages. But, hey, let's not stop now. Leviticus chapter 18 deals with Gods laws on human sexuality and sandwiched in the middle of the chapter we find this:
Leviticus 18:21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through [the fire] to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I [am] the LORD.
Molech was an Ammonite deity to whom children were sacrificed for the sins of their parents – later Jews began the practice to YHVH with which He was angry and for which the Hebrew nation paid a heavy price. The Bible really leaves no room for error in understanding...God hates abortion:
Psalm 106:38 And shed innocent blood, [even] the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.
Children are a blessing from God. A gift handed down from on high. Made in the very image of the Creator and are truly a blessing to “him whose quiver is full of them.” Do not be led astray by the lie into believing we can do with unborn life as we see fit. We are to be guardians for the innocent and greatly at risk, the most humble and lowly form of life which, in the economy of the Father, has the most rather than the least honor given to it. That which can neither protect itself from harm nor provide it's own sustenance...which resembles man before God. Helpless and weak. It's a good thing for us that God detests terminating human life...or the whole of mankind might have been aborted.
You may ask yourself, "What has this to do with prophecy?" Keep this in your heart; abortion represents the anithesis of the love of God, and the future wrath of the Father will rain down on man in judgment. Will He overlook abortion? Absolutely not! Them that shed innocent blood, who never come to salvation through the grace of Jesus Christ, will be eternally sorry. The day of Christ draws neigh..repent and return to Him in humility, kneeling at the blood-stained cross of Calvery before the One who gave His innocent life for you.
